From February 1st to 28th it will take place the 142th edition of Carnevale di Viareggio.
This year the parades of floats in papier-maché will take place on February 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd and 28th. Celebrations continue in the streets of the city and in the clubs. There are also several cultural and recreational events.

On March 1st it took place the inauguration of the exhibition of the Belgian artist Wim Delvoye in the Church of San Cristoforo in Lucca, organized by Associazione San Cristoforo and coordinated by Lalla's Join. Among the works displayed there are a monumental Tower 11 metres high (Untitled), exhibited at the Louvre in Paris until January 2013, and a sculpture made with the marble of the Apuan Alps specially made to be shown in Lucca.
The exhibition will continue until 9/1/2013.

From February 23rd to March 17th Fondazione BML hosts the exhibition "La mia Lucca" by the artist Salvatore Magazzini from Pistoia, an internationally renowned landscape painter, whose works can be found in several private collections and auctions.
The visit to the exhibition will be accompanied by a song specially composed by Stefano Giannotti, who draws inspiration from the atmosphere, customs and monuments of Lucca.

Comune di Lucca, with the organization of Gruppo 201 of Lucca of Amnesty International sponsors the exposition "Al centro dello sguardo" at Palazzo Guinigi, intending to contribute to raising awareness of citizenship on the important issue of human rights.
The exposed artists, who are nationally and internationally well known, joined for free, aware of the importance of the issue.

The exposition by Vincenzo Balsamo, "Vincenzo Balsamo. Riscrivere la natura", curated by Maurizio Vanni at Lu.C.C.A. - Lucca Center of Contemporary Art - in collaboration with Archivio Generale Vincenzo Balsamo, continues until February 3rd. The exposition is composed by 60 works on paper, mostly unpublished, that well represent the trend of Balsamo to experimentation and to the investigation of nature and feelings.

Lucca celebrates Francesco Geminiani , one of the greatest composers of Lucca, born in Lucca on December 5th, 1687 and died in Dublin on September 17th, 1762, in the occasion of the 250th anniversary of his death. The autumn cycle of cultural meetings, organized by the Istituto Storico Lucchese, Provincia di Lucca, Comune di Lucca, Centro Studi Luigi Boccherini, the Associazione Musicale Lucchese, Lions Lucca Host and Rotary Club, includes concerts, conferences and the affixing, on December 5th, of the memorial tablet devoted to Geminiani.

From November 17th to December 9th Real College will host the 2012 Edition of Il Desco, the exhibition and market of Eno-gastronomy. There will be numerous local producers, but also workshops and meetings, such as those of Programma di educazione al Gusto promoted by Slow Food.

The province of Lucca, in collaboration with various cultural associations and Comune of Viareggio and Bagni di Lucca, decided to devote a week of meetings, conferences, tours and screenings in the presence of Napoleon on our provincial territory in order to enhance the wealth of his legacy on the territory.

The Festival internazionale del Fumetto, del Gioco e dell'Illustrazione, organized by Lucca Comics and Games & by Comune of Lucca in collaboration with institutions and foundations, will take place from November 1st to 4th, and inevitably it will have the Mayan prophecy as a central theme.

Lu.Be.C. 2012 will take place from October 18th to 20th, at the Real Collegio. Lu.Be.c is one of the most important events dedicated to the cultural sector, technology applied to the culture, tourism and territorial marketing. The major stakeholders of this sector will take part to the event, and, like every year, they will promote research and experimentation of new technologies in this area, and they will have the opportunity to agree on new targets and accommodate the expectations of the international community.

Lu.C.C.A. - Lucca Center of Contemporary Art - proposes an exhibition dedicated to one of the most important photographers in the world: David LaChapelle. The exhibition is composed by 53 photos, through which the artist, with originality and extravagance, manages to describe the weakness and hypocrisy of modern man.

During the month of September Lucca will offer you several religious, cultural and entertainment events. The most important is Festa di Santa Croce on the 14th, preceded by the traditional Luminara across the city streets on the 13th.

Murabilia 2012 will take place on Septhember 7th, 8th and 9th and it will take place, as usual, on the city walls. The botanical themes of this edition are: Hosta, Aloe and red flowers and plants. There will be also many events and cultural meetings about botany, horticulture and gardening.

On June 29th the 15° edition of Lucca Summer Festival will start with the concert of Tom Petty. It will be followed by concerts of national and international artists, as Blink 182, Laura Pausini and Duran Duran.

On Sunday June 24th it will take place the 6th Edition of "Girottolando Fuori le Mura", the vintage cars metting organized by Scuderia Pantera and Registro Storico Italiano Indian. The event will start at 09:00 in Piazza Cesare Battisti in Ponte a Moriano, followed by a tour on the hills of Morianese and, finally, the parade on the urban walls.

From 25 to 27 May, Villa Le Pianore will host Demeter, the exhibition that celebrates the arrival of summer with all its products: in particular strawberries, flowers, and seasonal products by Coldiretti, Confagricoltura and Cia. There will be conferences, exhibitions, markets and opportunities to taste local products.

It is possible to follow classical and neoclassical ballet, street dance, dance, Latin American and Caribbean standards, modern and lyrical jazz, tap dance, oriental dance and ethnic dances.
